Objects
Boreholes are the foundational object type in Borebase, representing physical drill holes with stratigraphic logging, sample collection, and groundwater observations.
Introduction to Boreholes
A borehole is a narrow shaft drilled into the ground to identify soil and rock layers, collect samples, and install instruments.
GEOTECHNICAL NOTE
Borehole logging follows ISO 14688 (soil classification) and ISO 14689 (rock classification) standards.
Creating a Borehole
From the project's Objects tab, click + Add Object and select Borehole.
Select Borehole from the object type menu.
Fill in the required information: Object Name is mandatory. Enter other details like coordinates and ground level.
Click Advanced Options to access additional configuration settings for detailed borehole setup.
Once all required fields are complete, click Create Borehole to save the new object.
Your new borehole will appear in the Objects list. Click on it to open and view its details.
Click the Open Object button to access the borehole's detailed workspace.
Metadata Tab
The Metadata tab displays and allows editing of the borehole's core information. Click the Metadata tab to view project details, location, and reference information.
Edit the borehole name and other identifying information in the metadata section.
Stratigraphy Tab
Stratigraphy describes the sequence of soil/rock layers with depth range, type, and description.
Borebase supports ISO 14688 soil classification with primary types and secondary modifiers.
Each soil type displays with a standard geological hatch pattern.
Hydrogeology Tab
Record groundwater observations including date, water level, type, and notes.
Water level types: First Strike, Stabilized, Artesian, Perched.
Samples Tab
Track all samples collected with ID, depth, type, recovery, and assigned lab tests.
Borehole Construction Tab
The Borehole Construction tab allows you to define the well construction elements including casing, screen, gravel pack, and other components.
