Objects
The Standard Penetration Test (SPT) is one of the most common in-situ tests. Borebase manages SPT data with automatic corrections, parameter calculations, and correlations.
Introduction to SPT
The SPT involves driving a split-spoon sampler into the ground with a 63.5 kg hammer, counting blows for 300mm penetration.
GEOTECHNICAL NOTE
SPT testing follows ASTM D1586 / ISO 22476-3. Calculations use Skempton (1986), Liao & Whitman (1986) correlations.
Simple equipment, sample collection, universal correlations, cost-effective.
Creating an SPT Object
Create standalone SPT object or add SPT tests within a borehole.

Select SPT from the object type menu.

Enter the SPT object name.

Click Advanced Options to configure additional parameters like equipment corrections and soil type.

Click Create SPT to save the new SPT object.

The SPT object now appears in the objects table.

Click the Open object button to access the SPT data entry interface.

Metadata Tab
The Metadata tab displays the SPT object's core information. Click the Metadata tab to view and manage object details.

View and edit SPT object details including name, location, and test parameters.

SPT Data Tab
Enter blow counts N1, N2, N3 for each test depth. N = N2 + N3 is calculated automatically.

SPT Graphs Tab
The Graphs tab provides interactive depth-based charts for visualizing SPT parameters.

Charts display calculated parameters: N60 (standardized N-value), friction angle estimates (Jamiolkowski, Hatanaka & Uchida, Wolff/Peck methods), and relative density correlations (Kulhawy & Mayne, Skempton).
Samples Tab
The Samples tab tracks all samples collected during SPT testing with depth, type, and recovery information.
